Any recently married couple will tell you, vendors can make or break your wedding. It’s worth every bit of time to shop around to find ones that share your vision, are professional and reliable and who will make your special day perfect. We had our hits and misses, but a definite hit was Abel Soria Photography. We found Abel courtesy of The Knot and contacted him via email. He was always quick to respond and very professional, so much so that we booked his services before we even had a chance to meet with him in person. That’s saying a lot, as our wedding was being held in the San Francisco Bay Area while we lived in Los Angeles, making the whole process much more complicated. When it actually came time to sit down with Abel, he was very flexible in finding a time to meet when we’d be in town. The day of, we were detained, causing us to be over 45 minutes late to our appointment. Abel was completely understanding and happily met with us as if we were perfectly on time. Once we sat down, it took only minutes for us to click with him. We explained our ideas about what the photography would look like and he immediately knew exactly what we were looking for and made suggestions that helped us make a specific plan. He also had a number of albums on-hand for us to peruse and get ideas from. He then very clearly explained his contract, his duties and everything we would get. We left sure that we’d made the right decision. As our wedding date neared, Abel kept in touch periodically, then scheduled a second in-person meeting so we could go over the plan one more time and make any last-minute changes. Though we mostly stuck with our plan, Abel seemed completely open to any new ideas we had for specific shots. He also offered to bring a second photographer, a student of his, to take additional pictures for a small price to be paid directly to the student, which we took him up on. On the day of the wedding, Abel, his Father/assistant and his student all arrived early and got straight to work. We had requested a paparrazi/journalistic style and Abel and his student quickly began shooting candid shots of the wedding party, the bride and groom, the families and the guests. They worked very well with everyone in attendance, easily getting whatever cooperation they needed for the perfect picture. We were even able to get some photography done before the ceremony, with the rest easily handled immediately after. During the ceremony, Abel and his student were able to get dozens of angles and shots without ever intruding on the ceremony. We barely even noticed them in the background. After our ceremony in Berkeley, CA, Abel’s crew packed up and followed us across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco where Abel met with us, the bride and groom, for a special photo shoot in Union Square that Abel had suggested. In the transfer time we had set aside between the ceremony and cocktail hour, we were able to do a complete photo shoot in and around Union Square before heading off to the reception. During the cocktail hour and reception, Abel and his student were again non-intrusive but always present getting pictures without ever getting in the way. We were only mildy aware of their presence throughout the night, but several guests commented on how dedicated the photographers were to getting their shots, going so far as to stand on chairs or lay on the floor for the perfect photo, but always out of the way.

Abel photographed our September 2013 wedding. Abel was the first (and only) photographer that we met with. We had talked to some photographers at wedding fairs but they projected a salesman-like feel, rather than a photographer who was really interested in his clients. When we met with Abel we clicked (no pun intended!) instantly! He was very personable and we could tell that he really wanted to get to know us and our personalities. Abel was not just “a salesman”. He even patiently answered my long spreadsheet of vendor questions (seriously!).
He showed us many of his photography styles (all amazing!) and helped us to pin point what we liked and didn’t like. With myself having 2 young children from a previous marriage, we let him know that catching the true essence of the kids was very important to us. He completely understood. After spending a good deal of time talking to and getting to know Abel at our first appointment, my then fiance was so impressed he was ready to sign a contract right then! I was also very impressed. However I’m the type of person that has to explore all options before making a decision…especially something as important as your wedding photographer. On the drive home we talked about interviewing other photographers and recalled the ones we saw at the wedding fairs. With that in mind and discussing the meeting we had just had and the feeling that we both got about Abel, I decided that I did not need to interview anyone else. I was sure Abel would be a perfect fit for us and our wedding. And he was! Not only did he take amazing engagement photos, he did a fantastic job at our wedding! He captured our live butterfly release perfectly! For posed photos he guided us as to what would look best and where. But for the most part we didn’t even know he was there! A few weeks later we were thrilled when we saw the finished photos! We are so looking forward to seeing our wedding album!

Abel Soria did a fantastic job at our wedding! He is always professional and courteous, and he took two people who don’t necessarily love having our photos taken and made us very comfortable. Our family and friends commented after the ceremony on how wonderful he was. He met us at the wedding site the day before at the time of our ceremony to make sure he would know what the lighting would be like and where all the activities would take place. Our January outdoor wedding was lucky to have a gorgeous blue sky after 3 days of rain, and the photos he captured that day were just stunning. We never even noticed him during the ceremony yet he captured some phenomenal shots. He got some unique shots of the dress, and messages the bridesmaids wrote under my shoes that day. He arranged our final walkout from the reception with everyone blowing bubbles at us which was a fun, spontaneous decision that created a great memory. Selecting the images for the wedding album was tough because there were so many good images to choose from. Abel is professional, excellent at what he does, listens to his clients yet offers creative ideas, and above all is a genuinely nice person. We would definitely recommend Abel Soria Special Memories Photography!

After interviewing photographers as far as Sacramento, I decided to go with Abel Soria. I was having a very traditional wedding and so I wanted traditional photographs. Abel was able to accommodate every one of my requests and then some. The church I was married in is very dark, but Abel was able to work his magic and the church photos came out lovely. During the reception he was able to capture the moment exactly how I imagined my reception to be. I can say nothing negative about Abel Soria, his personality and his photography. I loved his work so much that I referred my brother to him when he got married. My brother’s photos came out beautiful too, but that is what one would except from a true professional photographer. I will always recommend Abel Soria Photography to anyone who is in need of photography services.

Abel photographed our Sept 4th, 2010 wedding in Monterey CA and we couldn’t be any happier! We met with a number of photographers and Abel was the easiest choice in terms of price, professionalism, and skill. He was extremely organized before, during and after the wedding. We were hoping for clear weather in Monterey but unfortunately it was cloudy and cold, even so Abel got some AMAZING photographs. Since I was really cold we ended up not getting the fun outdoor photos that we could have but Abel found the perfect places inside our hotel to give us the fun, sophisticated and just plain perfect photos that we have today! I was in another wedding shortly after ours and the photographer was no where near as professional and they paid more! We are currently in the process of getting our magazine style photo book so i will update when we get that but considering how great Abel has been I doubt that it will be anything short of perfect. If Abel is available for your wedding book him!

Abel got through the shots quickly (the weather was HOT HOT HOT!!!). He has a knack for getting people together quickly, getting shots done and is a ninja with the candid shots. He got all the shots I was hoping for and more. I am very happy with Abel’s photography. I highly recommend him for any event, not just weddings.

Abel Soria is such a gem in the wedding photography world. I felt an instant rapport with him during our first meeting. We looked through photos that I liked and he asked me what it was that I liked about each one, which gave him a great vision of what I wanted our own photos to look like.
His prices are extremely reasonable and he was wonderful to work with, he was happy to work with us with our last minute Wedding Date change. Wedding photography is his passion and on our big day, he was having as much fun as we were.

Abel was professional from the start, but was not afraid to show his fun side and interact with us on a comfortable level…with all the stress that comes when planning a wedding, Abel was able to make the photography a fun process that I really didn’t need to worry about. He took the time to get to know us, as individuals and as a couple, he gave us ideas and support when we needed it, while allowing us the freedom to be creative and share our thoughts with him as well.
Thank You Abel, we would recommend you to everyone and anyone who needs a special family to capture their “Special Memories!”
